BCE was contracted to provide clash detection data of 100km of HV powerlines and the associated trees located under the powerlines.
Using the Trimble MX8 Mobile Laser Scanner, the 100km of powerlines were scanned in 2 days.
No control data was used, so the accuracy provided was +/- 100mm which was more than adequate when measuring the distance from the lowest powerline to the tree line beneath.
The data was processed and a colour map used to highlight the trees that were encroaching within set distances from the conductors.
The GPS positions of the encroaching trees was then able to be provided for remedial action to be taken.
The use of the Mobile 3D scanner was fast, accuarate and very cost effective.
